This all seemed to work out alright, but it was getting hard with having a 9 year old boy and 6 year old girl share a room! So, once the babies could no longer share the same crib (which they did until they were 5 1/2 months old) we decided to put them in separate rooms so that Jack could finally share with his brother!
It would have all worked out wonderfully, except that none of the girls wanted to be downstairs. I guess I should be glad that they all want to be close to us!!
Anyway, the girls came up with a plan of having them all share a "sleeping room" upstairs and then having a "girls clothes/girls stuff" room downstairs. In order to do this we had to have the set of bunk beds, one twin bed, and Chloe's crib in one room. NOTHING ELSE!! Hence the title, "Happy Hart Orphanage" because that is exactly what our house looks like! Because the rooms are small it was hard to get really good pictures, but hopefully these give some idea of the craziness!
It actually has turned out to be quite delightful because the children all know that if they talk and wake up the babies, they are all DEAD!! So, once they are in bed they usually go right to sleep without any problems or fighting!
The boys room has all the "boy stuff/clothes" including Chloe's clothes and changing table.
You will notice that there is no picture of the "girls stuff" room! Oh my heavens, that room is a HUGE disaster: clothes, towels, books, toys, shoes, misc. stuff covers the floor. The nice thing is that I can just close the door and not look at it because I don't have to tuck anyone in in that room! Someday my goal is to have them clean it, but I have learned (or am learning) to pick my battles, and that is not one that I have the energy to fight right now! And the bribing with "if you keep this clean we can decorate it really cute" just doesn't seem to be motivating enough!
So, there is absolutely NO VACANCY in this Happy Hart Home anymore! And I am completely at peace with that!

I would love to live in the Happy Hart Orphanage..if you ever get a vacancy! Your family has so much fun together and I think it so cute that Jack loves having a brother..how lucky for Calvin. I love you all so much! Emma was great today in her game..way to go Emma!
Sounds like a genius sleeping arrangement to me ;)! One of my favorite families that I grew up with had 7 kids in a 3 bedroom home. 5 boys, 2 girls. ALL those boys shared one room---two sets of bunkbeds and one who slept either on a sleeping bag on the floor or a cot in the dining room. They all grew up to be great, happy people ;)!
SO nice to get your comment today. Love you lots Holly!
Ok I absolutely love that their room is a disaster -- makes me feel SO much better when I can't even get the girls' door shut because they have so much stuff.
We have the same situation with sleeping arrgmnts -- but all of them, except anne, end up anywhere but on their beds (ie. couch, the floor, the closet etc.)... we've "picked our battles" on that one too. MIss you!
All the beds are made! How do you get your kids to do that?
